Old School Insanity

During the pandemic, I’ve had to go old school with a few things. I can honestly say I have not gone a single day without some form of rigorous exercise since March and it’s the only thing keeping me sane. While exercise has always been a huge part of my life, now more than ever, I want to feel good both mentally and physically. It’s the ONE daily thing I rely on for me time and self care.

I workout every day at 6:30am sharp (after coffee and making lunches and stuff for the kids) doing a weekly mix of intense cardio circuit and resistance workouts, running on the street and yoga to balance everything out. The cardio that’s been my go-to lately is old school Insanity with Shaun T of Beachbody. The first 3 workouts are killer and I swear by them. Then another day I’ll break outside with my Brooks sneakers and my headphones (listening to an eclectic variety of songs like Prodigy, “Smack My Bitch Up” and Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” lol) and I run ferociously for about 5 miles.

Lastly, I stretch and breathe to prevent injury and to keep from turning psycho haha. It does help that I’m a certified yoga teacher so I can just move on my mat without instruction, but there are plenty of good yoga resources out there you can do at home (also I have a library of classes I filmed throughout the pandemic you can enjoy for FREE).

At 42 years old I have figured out the blend that works for me and keeps me feeling good. Of course exercise is moot if you eat like poop but that’s a whole separate set of blogs. If you’re bored with your masked gym trips and at home workouts, pop on Insanity and jump around like a dummy, put one foot in front of the other outside for a few miles, and stretch and breathe. It’s all about feeling good and don’t forget to Use Your Core aha !!
